Biography
Born into a family from Normandy , it nourishes an early passion and vocation for painting and convinced her parents to take drawing lessons from ten years under the leadership of Mr. Paul, an art teacher for three francs month. These courses are permanently interrupted by the Franco-Prussian war of 1870 when the family finds refuge in Normandy, Champsecret in Orne.The beginnings
In 1875, he entered the room with a bas-relief medallion portrait of Francois Jules Edmond Got actor and dean of the Comédie-French , and a few etchings in a vein naturalist . Between 1877 and 1879, he met Edgar Degas , Edouard Manet which he attended the workshop 2 , Duranty and Marcellin Desboutin who meet at the New Athens cafe in Paris. There is also a meeting of Émile Zola he admires and he illustrates stories and novels as The Dram .Starting in the 1880s, he painted intimate scenes in the Dutch style of XVII th century. His first painting, The Lady of the Fifth , was admitted to the Salon of 1881. In 1889, Gaston La Touche painted Strike at Anzin , parade workers inspired by Emile Zola 3 .
A new style
On the advice of his friend Felix Bracquemond , it intensifies the colors of his palette and draws his subjects in the wake of the fête galante of Antoine Watteau and genre scenes of François Boucher . Landscapes, portraits bright, also influenced by Puvis de Chavannes , meet an immediate success in the National Society of Fine Arts .In 1891, he burns paintings which he is not satisfied. He receives the order decorations City Hall Saint-Cloud and the hall of the Ministry of Justice 4 . In 1900, he participated in the decoration of the restaurant the Blue Train from Gare de Lyon in Paris. He divides his time between his studio at 31 rue Dailly Saint-Cloud and property Champsecret in Orne. In 1906, he was a founding member of the Salon Society of Watercolor which he is chairman and where he exhibited.
He died in 1913.
